Ophthalmology

Overview

Overview

Ophthalmologists are doctors that specialize in eye and vision care, diagnosing and treating a wide variety of eye conditions. They also perform eye surgery and can prescribe eyeglasses and/or contact lenses to correct vision issues. Additionally, an ophthalmologist can recognize problems in the eye that aren’t directly related, which can result in a referral to another doctor for treatment. Some ophthalmologists also choose to specialize even further and focus on an area of study that allows them to deal with even more difficult conditions for specific groups of patients.

Proliance ophthalmologists deal with a wide variety of eye-related issues, such as:

Eyelids

Eyelid Lesions

A growth that develops on the eyelid that can be either malignant (cancerous) or benign. Lesions can have many causes from infections to structural problems, such as styes or hordeolum and chalazion.

Eye

Optometrists

Healthcare professionals who provide primary vision care. They are trained to diagnose, examine, treat, and manage conditions of the visual system and associated structures via corrective lenses, medication, and surgical procedures.

Lens

Pediatric Cataracts

A condition where the eye’s lens becomes cloudy, preventing light from reaching the retina and may cause light rays to scatter which distorts the image and can cause blurry vision or blindness in children.

Eye Muscles

Strabismus (Crossed Eyes)

A misalignment of the eyes where one deviates inward toward the nose or outward while the other eye remains focused. There is a range of causes from stroke to head injury or neurological conditions and Graves’ disease.
