Otolaryngologists, or ENTs (Ear, Nose, and Throat), are doctors who deal with issues of the head, neck, and throat. They treat a wide variety of issues in children and adults. Whether it’s sleep apnea, tonsils, allergies, or something more concerning, the otolaryngologist is the specialist to deal with it. In fact, it’s estimated that around half of patients that go to see their primary care doctor have some kind of ENT issue.

Some doctors sub-specialize in the areas of Neurotology and Otology, which is dedicated to treating hearing loss, ear infections, and tumors involving the ear and skull.

Additionally, Otolaryngologists are all trained in facial plastic surgery. A surgical specialty that focuses on the treatment of infectious diseases, trauma, and cancer in the head and neck. Common surgeries can include addressing cancers of the mouth and throat, thyroid gland, and salivary glands.

The focus of anatomy, physiology, and diseases that affect the nose and the paranasal sinuses. Disorders can include a range of medical problems from sinus infections to nasal polyps and nasal congestion to loss of smell.

Sinus Surgery

An outpatient procedure that is used to relieve nasal obstruction and open the sinus passageways. An endoscope, or small lighted camera, is used to view the sinuses and small instruments are used to remove polyps or diseased sinus mucosa to open the sinuses.

Disorders that afflict children and teenagers that range from tonsil and adenoid enlargement to feeding and swallowing difficulty, as well as ear infections and speech delay.
